Is Zi Wei Dou Shu (ZWDS) a good prediction tool?

The answer is NO.

I believe, all serious ZWDS enthusiasts will furiously disagree with me. After all, they spend their entire career life, telling people how good they are, in predicting the futures for everyone.

To understand this question. We need to understand what “prediction” really means as a definition.

In a quick search on Google, the “predict” word means “say or estimate that (a specified thing) will happen in the future …”. A second search on the “estimate” word, it returns with this: “roughly calculate or judge the value, number, quantity, or extent of”.

As a retired Chartered Accountant myself, the closest definition that we always relate a prediction or forecast to, is something like this: “… is a technique that uses historical data as inputs to make informed estimates“. This definition can easily be observed in a lot of tools that are popularly used in our lives, that we cannot live without. For example, the weather forecast tool that collects the past weather data, and then analysed to derive a weather forecast information. The same goes for chartists who use the past trading data, to predict the future stock price movement.

That then begs the big question, why is Zi Wei Dou Shu not a prediction tool, since it is used to read future destiny?

The answer is easy. In a Zi Wei Dou Shu chart calculator, you can read the past or read into the future, with the perpetually available data, without the need to predict, estimate, forecast or project. Below chart examples are plotted from the same owner. The first one shows with the presentation about things happened in year 1985, when the assessment year is switched to 1985.

The next Ziwei chart example shows, on contrary, the future data for the year 2030. Again, all you need to do is to switch the assessment year to 2030. The future data is always readily available.

Another important difference between a prediction and a non-prediction model is that, a prediction model will require a constant update whenever there is a new set of data kicks in. Meaning, a prediction will take into account of the past data — which should include the distant past, plus the most recent past input.

Say the company stock/share price is predicted to rise by 30% in the next quarter, based on the current projected result. To make it easier to understand, say, if the company got burnt down unexpectedly, wholly and completely overnight, the 30% prediction will surely be invalid immediately afterwards, before it even reaches the next quarter end. This underlying modus operandi works almost the same, for all prediction models such as in the weather forecast or the stock market forecast.

On the other hand, the information on the Zi Wei Dou Shu chart for each individual, will remain perpetually, consistently and persistently never ever change, from birth to death. No prediction effort is necessary. The only required, is the “decoding skill” to read the data set for different dates (i.e decade, year, month, day). If you wish, you can imagine that the Zi Wei chart snapshot data, is like the x-ray reports* for the past, next year, year 2043, next week, tomorrow, any date — already readily available to you at any one time, no prediction is required.

To sum it all up, simply, you predict when the future data is not available to you, but why bother to predict when the future data is already readily available at your disposal..
